WATCH: Say What? Kate Beckinsale Makes an Awkward Introduction in This Funny, Bumbling Clip from Love & Friendship
Kate Beckinsale is caught in the middle of a very awkward introduction in this clip from her new film Love & Friendship.
The film is based on Jane Austen’s early short novel Lady Susan, with Beckinsale stepping into the role of the titular character. Lady Susan Vernon is broke and searching (and scheming) to find a suitable (and very wealthy) husband for her daughter Frederica.
In this scene, she introduces a potential suitor, the witless Sir James Martin, to her in-laws, and the meeting does not go as planned.
Sir Martin, played by Tom Bennett, makes several social faux pas, including being confused by the name Churchill and mistaking the lady of the house’s brother for her husband.
Beckinsale does her best to keep a cool composure despite her embarrassment.
The comedy, also starring Chloe Sevigny, is in theaters now.
