Liam Hemsworth is 'Home Resting' After He Was Hospitalized with Kidney Stones
Liam Hemsworth missed a press day and the premiere for Isn't It Romantic, which wife Miley Cyrus attended on his behalf
Liam Hemsworth is taking it easy as he recovers from kidney stones.
The 29-year-old actor was briefly hospitalized on Saturday night, his Isn’t It Romantic costar Rebel Wilson first revealed over the weekend. PEOPLE confirmed on Monday that Hemsworth was dealing with kidney stones.
A source told PEOPLE that although Hemsworth “was briefly hospitalized,” he is now “at home resting and will be fine.”
The actor skipped press for the movie on Sunday and later missed the big premiere on Monday night in Los Angeles. But in a sweet gesture of support, his wife Miley Cyrus, 26, showed up to the premiere on his behalf and explained on her Instagram that the star was focusing on his health.
“So proud of my hunky hubby @liamhemsworth & his newest movie #IsntItRomantic ❤️” she wrote. “He unfortunately wasn’t able to attend due to health reasons… but he is recovering and taking this time to rest / heal.”
“It’s hard for entertainers to put themselves before the project but this time it was crucial …. I am proud to represent him and his incredible work,” she added. “So happy to see him shining in this comedy! He is the funniest person I know , and the world now gets to see the Liam I wake up to every day…. luckiest 💋”
Hemsworth also explained his absence on his Instagram after the premiere, where he apologized for missing the event and gave a sweet shout out to his wife for attending on his behalf.
“Sorry I couldn’t make it to the @isntitromantic premier tonight guys. Been dealing with some pretty annoying health stuff the last couple days,” he explained.
“Lucky I have the best girl in the world to represent for me! Thanks for the support babe!” he added. “I hope everyone enjoys the movie! It’s a perfect Valentine’s Day flick so if ya ain’t got nothin better to do then go see it! Love to all!”
Speaking to PEOPLE at the Los Angeles event, costar Adam Devine sent Hemsworth his best and revealed that the two have been texting back and forth, joking he has sent Hemsworth “a lot of inappropriate texts” about his condition.
“Poor guy. I know he’s in a lot of pain and it really sucks what he’s going through, ’cause I know that he would want to be here and he’s a really fun guy to have around, so I’m really bummed about it,” said Devine, 35.
Hemsworth and Cyrus said “I do” in an intimate, secret ceremony at her home in Franklin, Tennessee, on Dec. 23, 2018. She wore an off-the-shoulder Vivienne Westwood gown while Hemsworth wore a traditional black tux.
