Jeff Bezos' Girlfriend Lauren Sanchez Files for Divorce from Ex 1 Day After Bezos Finalizes His

Sanchez has filed for divorce just one day after the Amazon CEO finalized his divorce — and three months after their romance came to light

Lauren Sanchez and her ex Patrick Whitesell have officially filed for divorce — just one day after her boyfriend, Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos finalized his split from his ex-wife.

Sanchez, 49, filed her petition for divorce on Friday, which was accompanied by Whitesell’s response, according to legal documents obtained by The Blast.

Both are seeking joint custody of their two children, and neither is asking for child support, according to the documents, the outlet reports. Whitesell, 54, is the co-CEO of one of the most powerful talent agencies in Hollywood, William Morris-Endeavor.

He and Sanchez, a news anchor, have been married for 13 years. She also has an older son from a previous relationship.

The news of their filing comes one day after Bezos, 55, announced on Twitter he had finalized his divorce from ex-wife MacKenzie, who walked away with 25 percent (or about $36 billion) of his fortune. Bezos remains the richest person in the world with an estimated net worth of $110 billion, according to Forbes.

Bezos is retaining 75 percent of the former couple’s Amazon shares, which is about 12 percent of the company, while MacKenzie is keeping roughly 4 percent, according to The New York Times.

“I’m so grateful to all my friends and family for reaching out with encouragement and love. It means more than you know. MacKenzie most of all,” Bezos tweeted on Thursday.

“I’m grateful for her support and for her kindness in this process and am very much looking forward to our new relationship as friends and co-parents,” he continued. “In all our work together, MacKenzie’s abilities have been on full display. She has been an extraordinary partner, ally, and mother. She is resourceful and brilliant and loving, and as our futures unroll, I know I’ll always be learning from her.”

In her own statement on Twitter, MacKenzie revealed details of what assets they had divided, which her ex-husband retweeted.

“Grateful to have finished the process of dissolving my marriage with Jeff with support from each other and everyone who reached out to us in kindness, and looking forward to the next phase as co-parents and friends,” she wrote.

She added, “Happy to be giving him all of my interests in the Washington Post and Blue Origin, and 75% of our Amazon stock plus voting control of my shares to support his continues contributions with the teams of these incredible companies.”

“Excited about my own plans,” she continued. “Grateful for the past as I look forward to what comes next.”

Sanchez’s relationship with Bezos came to light in early January, shortly after he and MacKenzie announced they were separating.

“Lauren and Jeff have been spending a lot of time together over the last year and especially the past few months,” a source told PEOPLE at the time. “At first it was socially at parties… here and there. But their time together has definitely seemed to evolve, raising some eyebrows. Jeff has met a small group of Lauren’s girlfriends, too. The two of them are sort of thick as thieves right now.”
