Entertainment Movies WATCH: Amanda Seyfried and Shirley MacLaine Form an Unlikely Bond in 'The Last Word' Trailer By Kara Warner Updated on December 8, 2016 10:50 AM Share Tweet Pin Email Have you ever thought about what legacy you’ll leave behind when you die? Or if you could orchestrate the specifics of exactly how you will be remembered? In the upcoming film The Last Word, retired businesswoman and notorious control freak Harriet (Shirley MacLaine) decides she wants to oversee the writing of her obituary before she dies. Enter local newspaper obituary writer Anne Sherman (Amanda Seyfried), who is assigned by her editor to grant Harriet’s request. As you will see in the exclusive first look at the trailer above, the two women get more out of their assigned relationship than they planned. In the trailer, Harriet tells Anne that she wants her obituary to mention how “the deceased has touched someone’s life,” but when interviewing Harriet’s acquaintances to find one such person, Anne realizes that Harriet’s controlling ways have left mostly negative impressions on people. Upon receiving this news, Harriet sets out to find someone on whom she can make a positive impact before she dies. “We have to find a youth to mold and that person will be the life I touch,” she says, which introduces a plucky youngster who becomes Harriet’s de facto sidekick and her “intern” at a local radio station where Harriet becomes a DJ. The film also stars Seyfried’s fiancé, Thomas Sadoski, whom we get brief glimpses of in the trailer as Harriet’s boss at the radio station. Seyfried, 30, and Sadoski, 40, first met while working together on the off-Broadway show The Way We Get By last year, but didn’t begin dating until they were reunited while filming The Last Word. The couple are expecting their first child together. Directed by Mark Pellington, The Last Word will premiere at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, and hits theaters March 3.
