She might have portrayed fearless rocker Joan Jett in The Runaways, but Kristen Stewart admits that pursuing her love of music in real life has had its challenges.

“I’ve always really liked playing guitar and stuff, but I’ve really started playing music a lot [this past year],” Stewart, 25, tells longtime pal Suzie Riemer in a video interview that was released on Nylon‘s website Tuesday. “That’s always been intimidating for me.”

Specifically, the woman who rose to fame starring in the mega-popular Twilight saga says it can be difficult for herself and others to recognize that her talents extend beyond acting.

“If you’re good at one thing and from a young age, it’s like, ‘Well, that’s what you’re good at,’ ” Nylon‘s September cover star told her longtime friend as part of Riemer’s “Carversations” video series. “It’s hard to step out of that and explore other things because you’re like, ‘No, that’s what I do.’ ”

The American Ultra star also revealed a bit more during the relaxed conversation, including her favorite gas-station snack (Lunchables) and her attitude toward text etiquette, which is surprisingly strict.

“I put so much emphasis into punctuation and the structure of how the words are laid on the page,” she says of her texting strategy. “People are always like, ‘Nice spacing,’ and I’m like ‘That meant everything!’ “
