Stewart will portray Borden's suspected lover and possible accomplice, Bridget Sullivan

Kristen Stewart and Chloe Sevigny have officially signed on to help tell the chilling story of accused axe-murderer, Lizzie Borden, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Sevigny, 40, will take on the role of Borden, the young woman who found herself in the center of one of the most mysterious murder cases in American history.

Stewart, 25, will portray Borden’s suspected lover and possible accomplice, Bridget Sullivan. The live-in maid was a witness to the rising tension between the family and testified at the trial, as she was thought to have been in the home at the time of the murders.

While many of the details of the film are unknown, including the title of the twisted psychological thriller, the story is said explore the event that led up to the gruesome murders.

Peter Van Hees (Waste Land) is set to direct.

Borden was accused, tried and later acquitted for brutally stabbing her father and step-mother to death in 1892. At the time, she was the only suspect in the case and no one else was ever charged with the murders.
