WATCH: Kevin Hart and More The Secret Lives of Pets Stars Reveal What They Do at Home When Nobody's Watching
Lake Bell, Eric Stonestreet and more The Secret Lives of Pets stars have fun with these pet-themed questions in PEOPLE's exclusive video
The new animated film The Secret Lives of Pets answers a question every animal owner has pondered: What are our pets up to when we’re not looking?
Taking that a step further, the film’s voice actors didn’t hesitate to get personal with PEOPLE when asked to reveal their secret habits.
“When I get home and I take my pants off, I scratch my legs for a good five minutes,” jokes Kevin Hart. “I don’t know why. It’s not even a scratch – it’s just a soothing rub. ‘Cause my jeans have gotten tighter as the later years have come upon us.”
The 37-year-old comedian, who voices hopping-mad bunny Snowball in the picture, also admits he spends his time away from the spotlight being a dad. “My secret life is spending time with my kids. My secret live is being a dad at the highest level,” he said.
Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet, who plays shaggy mutt Duke, runs errands in the valley when he’s undercover. “I love the deep valley,” he said. “I love going to places in the deep valley. I think you know what the deep valley means …”
“I am a secret double agent and I’ve just blown my cover … ” Bell admitted.
“You too?” Moynihan joked. “Oh, we just said it on camera! There goes the assassin business!”
“Well, you know, I had to get out of it sometime,” Bell laughed.
The cast also took time to channel their animalistic counterparts in a series of pet-related questions – in which Bell revealed she’s very protective around new people.
“I have a daughter now so I’m very territorial with the space around her,” she said.
Meanwhile, Stonestreet said he gets “nervous” about meeting strangers. “Most people don’t think of actors and people like us that are performers and out in the world as introverts, but I like to know I can trust someone first.”
So when Stonestreet does trust someone, is he a good boy or a bad boy?
“I’m a good boy!” he said. “I do what I’m told, I’m on time, I’m always where I’m supposed to be when I’m supposed to be there, I don’t mess around with other people’s time and schedule. And I eat my vegetables. And my meats. And my carbs. And my dairy.”
The Secret Lives of Pets is in theaters now.
