You won’t meet two more perfect newlyweds.

That’s how actor and writer Ken Marino describes his friends Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux, whose wedding he attended on Aug. 5 – though he was coy with PEOPLE about that fact at the No Escape film premiere in Los Angeles on Monday.

“I don’t know. Maybe I was. Maybe I wasn’t,” Marino, 46 – who worked with Aniston on 2012’s Wanderlust – says of being at the Bel Air nuptials. “If I were there, it was beautiful and absolutely perfect.”

Asked why Aniston, 46, and Theroux, 44, are so great together, Marino didn’t hesitate.

“What makes them work as a couple is that Jen is one of the kindest, most caring, loving people in the world. And Justin is her equal,” he said. “They are both beautiful, beautiful people deep down to the core. Inside as well as outside. I care very much for them. I feel very lucky to know them and be their friend.”

Theroux was spotted back in Los Angeles on Monday, sporting his new wedding band, following a tropical honeymoon in Bora Bora – which he and Aniston spent with a group of friends. Marino wasn’t among them, and he joked that maybe it was because he didn’t get them a wedding gift.

“What do you get them? The gift was a big hug and kiss and saying congratulations,” he said. “Maybe that’s why I wasn’t invited to the honeymoon!”

Marino was at the No Escape premiere to support one of the film’s leads, his friend Lake Bell. The other lead, Owen Wilson, was also asked about Aniston and Theroux’s wedding, and offered his well wishes.

“Justin is one of the writers on Zoolander. We just finished filming in Rome,” Wilson said. “So yeah, good luck!”
