Everything She's Said About Motherhood, Health and Aging The actress turns 40 on Friday By Alexia Fernández Published on April 19, 2019 11:26AM EDT Share Tweet Pin Email Kate Hudson is finally 40 — and feeling better than ever! The actress, who celebrated her birthday on Friday, has had a successful career in Hollywood with such films as How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Almost Famous and Fools Gold, but she’s also managed to launch her own business, Fabletics, and raise three children. Hudson recently welcomed her third child, 6-month-old daughter Rani Rose, and became a WW ambassador in December. While juggling mommy duties, her businesses and an acting career may not be easy, Hudson has taken everything on with a calm only she can possess. Here’s everything she’s said about motherhood, aging and health. On Being a Mom The Golden Globe winner opened up about parenting her daughter and sons Bingham Hawn, 7, and Ryder Russell, 15, while making an appearance on Good Morning America earlier this month. “Seeing the boys with her… I feel like I tear up every day,” she said. “To see [Ryder] with his sister and to be a real helper and for me to be able to walk away and go, ‘Hey, honey, can you just take the baby?’ And I turn around and I’m like, ‘Oh, my gosh.’” Phillip Faraone/WireImage She jokingly added, “I’ve been having babies a long time, let’s put it that way. But it’s good. Everyone’s so happy and I feel, right now… even though it’s chaotic, the energy is calm and loving and peaceful right now and I’m just in a great place.” The actress, who has her three children from separate relationships, opened up about co-parenting on the podcast Divorce Sucks! With Laura Wasser in March, saying she learned by example after her mother Goldie Hawn divorced Bill Hudson. “The one thing that I learned from my mom is that no matter what you’re feeling and no matter what — when I see my friends talking s— about their ex-spouses in front of their kids, I get so upset because they don’t recognize how much that affects their child and how resentful their child will become of them,” she explained. “No matter what, I never heard a bad word about my father,” Hudson said. Kate Hudson Jokes She ‘Was Like a Teen Mom’ When She Had Son Ryder: ‘I Was Like 12’ “Kids are not only incredibly intelligent but eventually they can make their mind up themselves,” she continued. “They will see with their own eyes whatever needs to be seen and they need to come to that on their own terms. It’s not our place to tell them how to feel about the other parents. I think that’s so important.” On Celebrating Her Body and Keeping Healthy Since becoming an ambassador for WW, Hudson has shared her progress on Instagram, recently announcing that she was just a few pounds away from hitting her weight loss goal. “Okay my friends, wanted to share! I’m a couple lbs. from goal weight!” she wrote on social media Wednesday. “I’ve done it without stressing on food or working out like crazy although I have been disciplined.” Hudson’s goal was to lose 25 lbs. by the spring, around the time she begins filming a new movie. “I’ve taken my time, I’ve stayed true to my @ww app which I am so grateful for our relationship and that they included me in their family because it’s an incredible set up,” she said, and joked, “Easy as pie! And I can eat pie… except it’s anywhere from 9-22 points which is not the best movie… I personally go for the 5-point wine or vodka martini for a treat.” Hudson conceded that she has always liked working out and learning about nutrition, so getting healthy is fairly easy for her, but she said that her Fabletics and WW communities still helped her through the process. “Yes, active lifestyle I find enjoyable and yes, understanding food is a passion of mine but it doesn’t mean that I don’t need the support like everyone else,” she said. “Sharing the little parts of my wellness journey with you makes me feel oh so good. I can only hope that what I put out there can make you feel good and bring encouragement in return.” RELATED VIDEO: Goldie Hawn Was ‘Right in There’ While Daughter Kate Hudson Was Giving Birth Hudson added a note at the end: “PS I ain’t done yet!” In December, Hudson said she was excited about the “challenge” of working out again after a tough pregnancy. “I enjoy being disciplined. I enjoy being athletic, and I enjoy being active. So for me it’s actually kind of a fun time to challenge my body again in certain ways,” she told PEOPLE. “After pregnancy, getting your body back into shape for me — especially in fitness — finding my stomach muscles again and pushing myself a little bit harder sometimes are things that I enjoy.” On Embracing Her Age As for her plans on her big day, Hudson said she’s hoping for a “blowout” during her interview on GMA earlier this month. “I personally, with having a baby, feel like I deserve a really good hangover,” she joked. “I’ve been so good, I’ve been so busy. I’ve been breastfeeding like crazy and I just want some martinis. I want to sleep in. [That’d be] really nice.” She added, “I’m like a last minute kind of Aries girl… it’ll happen. At this point, I just want to tell everybody, ‘Hey, I’m gonna have a party,’ and then everybody shows up.” Kate Hudson Feels ‘Love All Around’ with Boyfriend Danny Fujikawa & Their Daughter Rani Rose As for worrying about her age (and her own kids getting older), Hudson doesn’t stress. “I’m having a blast,” she said earlier this month while on the Rachel Ray Show. “I can’t wait to go to a bar with [Ryder] — is that weird? He’s so much fun!” “He’s almost 6 feet. I used to dream about that day, like, ‘One day, honey, I’m going to be looking up to you,’ ” she continued. “And the other day, he gave me a hug and I almost burst into tears. It’s crazy, it’s amazing, it’s beautiful.”
