Justin Theroux can’t be bothered by tabloid rumors.
In a new interview with Paris-based Mastermind Magazine, the actor, 46, opened up about living his life in the spotlight, saying he’s learned to stop stressing over how he’s portrayed in the media.
“Well, that avatar is not me,” he said. “So, in that sense, I don’t lose any sleep over it. I’ve stopped caring about what other people think of me. It’s also minimized over the years”
Theroux, who recently split from Jennifer Aniston, said he doesn’t feel like he owes anyone answers about his personal life.
“I just keep working, which is the only thing you can do,” he said. “So, when someone I’ve never met in my life comes up to me and asks me a personal question, I say ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.’ And you know, I’m sorry, but I really don’t.”
On Feb. 15, Aniston and Theroux announced that they had split after two and a half years of marriage — and seven years as a couple.
“In an effort to reduce any further speculation, we have decided to announce our separation,” the former couple said in a joint statement. “This decision was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year. We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship.”
Sources previously told PEOPLE Aniston and Theroux’s clashing lifestyles eventually drove them apart.
Longtime L.A. dweller Aniston’s attempts to adapt to Theroux’s New York City-based lifestyle “made her miserable,” says the source close to her, while Theroux was never comfortable in her luxurious but insular L.A. world. “They couldn’t find common ground that made them both happy. It became exhausting and frustrating.”
