Josh Hutcherson experienced "the most embarrassing moment of [his] entire life" when he farted on Tom Hanks while filming The Polar Express

Josh Hutcherson experienced “the most embarrassing moment of [his] entire life” when he was a kid — and it just happened to involve Tom Hanks.

On Friday, the 25-year-old actor appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden where he recounted for the first time that he had passed gas on the Oscar winner when the two were filming a scene for 2004 motion-capture film The Polar Express.

“I farted. I farted in the scene!’ Hutcherson, who was 9 at the time, told host James Corden. “It happened. I did it.”

It wasn’t just that Hutcherson flatulated. It was that he did it on Hanks.

“It was motion capture so we had these dots on our face and these weird wetsuit things. It’s very, very odd experience,” Hutcherson recalled. “I was shooting this scene with Tom Hanks, the father of the world. And we’re shooting this scene where he’s playing the hobo and he’s on top of the train sking down and I’m nestled sort of on him like, ‘Whoa this is crazy.’ And [that’s when I farted].”

“That was my first big movie… and I was working with Robert Zemeckis and Tom Hanks… and I just farted in his face!” Hutcherson said.

So how did Hanks take it? The loveable star took the opportunity to tease his young costar.

“Instead of playing it cool, Tom Hanks was like, ‘Whoa whoa, Oh my God, this kid — What the heck? Oh my God!’ ” Hutcherson said.

Hutcherson went on to explain that while he hadn’t told anybody about the fart fiasco in the past, he was inspired to do so after filming his new Hulu show Future Man and one scene in particular in which he appears nude while wearing a prosthetic penis.

“That humbled me very much,” Hutcherson said.

As for what happened with Hanks, Hutcherson can laugh about it now. “It was a rite of passage I feel and he did in good humor,” Hutcherson said of Hanks. “Looking back on it, it was very funny. But at that moment I thought my face was going to start sweating blood.”
