Jim Carrey Calls STD Allegations 'Irrelevant' in Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed by Late Girlfriend's Mom

Carrey has asked the judge to strike all allegations and mentions of STDs

In the latest salvo in a bitter legal battle, Jim Carrey has accused his late girlfriend Cathriona White‘s mother of making irrelevant and false allegations against him in her wrongful death lawsuit.

In court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Carrey has asked the judge to strike all allegations and mentions of him suffering from multiple STDs and passing them to White during their relationship, calling the claims “irrelevant” to the case.

Carrey, 54, also points out that in two of White’s suicide notes, she wrote lovingly of him, describing him as family — and makes no mention of Brigid Sweetman, her mother.

“From the two suicide notes, it is indisputable that White looked to Carrey as the person she loved and trusted most,” state the documents.

He accuses Sweetman of suing him in an attempt to profit from her daughter’s suicide. He calls the lawsuit a “shakedown.”

He also disputes claims that he went back on his agreement to pay for White’s funeral costs.

Sweetman’s lawyer responded to the filing in a statement: “Jim Carrey has admitted he gave Ms. White multiple sexually transmitted diseases and purposely lied to her.”

Along with the STD allegations, both Sweetman and White’s estranged husband Mark Burton (who is also suing Carrey) separately claim that Carrey obtained the drugs that killed White under the false name “Arthur King” and provided them to her, despite knowing she was prone to depression and had previously attempted suicide. Both Burton and Sweetman are being represented by the same lawyer, Michael Avenatti.

In court documents filed in October, Carrey’s legal team stated, “There is absolutely no evidence that Carrey furnished his prescription medications to White. Rather, she stole them.” Therefore, the documents claim, Carrey “simply cannot be held liable” for White’s suicide.

In the newly filed documents, Carrey also attacked Sweetman’s credibility, claiming that “Sweetman herself admits to being blamed by third parties for the death of White because of the cruel birthday message Sweetman left for White days earlier.”

Carrey’s filing states that “it is ironic that Sweetman, who was estranged from White for years, is claiming that something Carrey supposedly did years before White’s suicide allegedly caused White’s death.”

Ultimately, he calls the allegations “nonsense” and requests that the instant Motion to Strike be granted in its entirety.
