Jessica Alba Won't Face Vandalism Charges for Her Shark Crusade

The actress apologizes to Oklahoma City residents for not using "better judgment"

Jessica Alba is out of hot water.

The Fantastic Four star provoked the ire of Oklahoma City residents a few weeks ago for pasting posters of sharks around town, including one that obscured a United Way billboard. Monday, however, Oklahoma City police said they won’t pursue criminal charges against Alba, who apologized, because none of the property owners wanted to pursue it.

Alba, 28, in Oklahoma shooting The Killer Inside Me, was trying to bring attention to the diminishing population of Great White Sharks. In a statement to PEOPLE, she says she regrets her actions.

“I got involved in something I should have had no part of,” she said. “I realize that I should have used better judgment.”

Alba didn’t say who was behind the protest, but admitted she should have made better choices that night.

“I regret not thinking things through before I made a spontaneous and ill-advised decision to let myself get involved with the people behind this campaign,” she said. “I sincerely apologize to the citizens of Oklahoma City and to the United Way for my involvement in this incident.”

Police Sgt. Gary Knight told the Associated Press that cops never interviewed Alba and it is typical to not pursue vandalism charges when property owners don’t want to prosecute.
