Is that really you, Jennifer Aniston?

The typically sleek and stylish actress, 45, was spotted on the L.A. set of her upcoming comedy-drama Cake on Tuesday sporting a dramatically unglamorous look, complete with baggy drawstring pants, no makeup, unstyled hair and a large scar on her right cheek.

The striking makeunder is for her role in the film, in which she plays a woman who becomes fascinated by the suicide of another woman (Anna Kendrick) in her chronic-pain support group.

The offbeat role in Cake, which she is also executive-producing, is “fantastic for her,” an industry insider told PEOPLE earlier this year. “It’s a complex character, and she’ll strike that perfect balance of drama and dark comedy.”

And she’s still striking to her fiancé of nearly two years, Justin Theroux, who dropped by set to visit his bride-to-be.
