Jamie Foxx sure knows how to kick a shindig into high gear.

The Oscar-winning actor was the life of the party at the #InspIRIE Gala on Wednesday night. The fete, held at the Shelborne Wyndham Grand Resort in Miami, Florida, tees off the 12th annual Irie Weekend – a three-day charity event for the Irie Foundation, which according to its website works “to improve and create a positive impact on the lives of South Florida’s at-risk youth.”

Foxx’s official DJ and pal DJ Irie founded the charitable organization. This year, it’s raising funds to build a new state-of-the-art music and education center – the Irie Rhythms Music Center – focused on providing free music lessons to at-risk students in south Florida.

The 48-year-old actor arrived with the founder and a group of friends, a source tells PEOPLE, and spent the evening entertaining the donors as the evening’s host.

“[He] was his usual, charming, comedic, flirting, sing-songy self,” the insider explains, “entertaining the crowd and graciously taking photos with gala guests.”

The source adds Foxx gave a heartfelt speech in support of DJ Irie and what he was doing for the youth in Miami – though not before teasing his longtime friend first.

An Instagram video posted on the foundation’s account also showed Foxx singing “Happy Birthday” to DJ Irie and friend RBK the DJ.
