Lindsay Lohan has left Hollywood behind – for London, a rich Russian boyfriend and what friends say is, at least for now, a calmer life.

After years of partying and running into trouble with the law, Lohan, 29, has been splitting her time between New York and London in recent months, and confirmed she’s been dating Egor Tarabasov, a Russian business heir, for about seven months. A source tells PEOPLE she has no interest in returning to L.A.

“She will never come back to Hollywood,” says the source. “The second she lands here, she is followed all day long.”

According to the source, the once-golden girl is well aware of her outcast status in Tinseltown, but hopes to rebuild her reputation.

“People don’t like her in Hollywood, and she knows,” says the source. “I think she’s trying to change people’s perception of her.”

After completing probation stemming from a 2012 reckless driving case, the actress moved to London, where she starred in a West End production of Speed-the-Plow last year but has kept a lower profile since.

“I don’t think she is going out that much. She says she’s cooking and at home,” says the source. “[She] goes to Monaco on the weekends and sits on yachts.”

The source thinks the move has been a positive change for Lohan.

“She sounds more humble and much more calm,” says the source. “I think it was good for her to get away from her family – and she has said [moving to London] was the best thing that ever happened.”

Most recently, Lohan stepped out to attend photographer Tyler Shields’ Decadence exhibition at London’s Maddox Gallery on Feb. 3.

When the actress does return stateside, she does her best to stay out of the spotlight.

“Even in New York when she was home the last time, she didn’t go out and she said she didn’t want to be in the press,” says the source.
