Idris Elba Isn't Giving Up PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive Title 'As Long as I'm Alive'

Idris Elba says he'll be the sexiest as long as he lives

Don’t plan on Idris Elba gracefully retiring PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive crown.

The 46-year-old actor, who bestowed with the honor in Nov. 2018, stopped by the Ellen DeGeneres Show where he joked about never giving up his title.

“Here’s my philosophy on this. It says Sexiest Man Alive. So as long as I’m alive, I’m still the sexiest,” Elba, 46, told host Ellen DeGeneres.

Elba revealed that he’s not the only on holding on to his title tightly. The actor stars as the villain in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw alongside 2016’s Sexiest Man Dwayne Johnson, who refused to congratulate him on set when he was named.

“It’s a little stiff competition. We made a movie together, and Dwayne didn’t want to give it up,” he said. “I was like, you know, give me a celebratory video? And he was like, ‘No.’ “

But unlike the rest of the world, Elba‘s daughter wasn’t totally rejoicing over the news that her famous father had been named Sexiest Man.

When asked how she found out about the title, Isan, 16, told PEOPLE, “Actually, I was on Instagram. PEOPLE said, ‘Oh, we’re announcing the Sexiest Man Alive,’ and I was like, ‘Oh yes, can’t wait.’ “

But she was less than enthused when she found out who the winner was. “I wake up in the morning and it’s my dad. I was like, ‘This is not what I was expecting. This is not very fun,’ ” Isan joked at a press event announcing her role as the Golden Globe Ambassador.

And her father’s reaction may have made it even more awkward.

“When I called him the day after, not even about it, he was like, ‘Do you have anything to say to me?’ And I said, ‘No, I don’t think so.’ Then he said, ‘I’m the Sexiest Man Alive.’ I was like, ‘Oh, yeah. That. That thing. Uh, okay, cool. You’re welcome,’ ” Isan said.
