Tom Hiddleston shows off his singing chops in his upcoming film I Saw the Light – and PEOPLE has the exclusive first trailer for the film.

In the film, Hiddleston, 34, takes the stage as iconic Western singer-songwriter Hank Williams, chronicling his rise to fame in the 1940s and his marriage to fellow musician Audrey Mae Williams (Elizabeth Olsen).

But as the musician’s career skyrockets, he finds his personal life taking center stage, rather than his music. His struggle with alcohol abuse and infidelity begins to take a toll on his career and marriage to Williams.

“Everybody has a little darkness in them,” Hiddleston is heard saying in the trailer. “I’m talking about things like anger, sorrow, shame – I show it them and they hear it, and they don’t have to take it home.”

Hiddleston has already received early raves for his performance in the biopic, following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

I Saw the Light hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
