Turns out the only real love story in Mad Max: Road Fury happened off camera.

While the movie was lauded for avoiding a cliché romance between its two main characters, the stunt doubles for Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy actually ended up falling in love on set – and are now happily married.

Dane Grant and Dayna Porter, who did the stunt work for Max and Furiosa respectively, first met in the Namibian desert in May 2012 for what turned into a grueling six-month shoot.

“I remember that first day meeting her in the stunt rehearsal gym. She stood out for all the right reasons,” Grant, 37, tells The Telegraph.

“Every time we get to work together is a blast, but none more so than the initial fight rehearsal,” he explains. “In the film it’s the first time Max meets Furiousa and they fight it out with a sequence that fight choreographer had us training non-stop for weeks.”

After duking it out over countless takes, sparks started to fly – and not just from flame-throwing electric guitars.

“Dayna and I had a lot in common with those two characters, meeting for the first time, learning to trust each other under stressful conditions,” Grant said.

The stunt duo now have a 14-month-old son together.
