In the official trailer for The Fantastic Four, released Sunday, the young team gains their superhuman abilities, and villain Dr. Doom makes his first appearance.

Directed by Josh Trank, known for 2012’s Chronicle, the action film stars Miles Teller as Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Kate Mara as Sue Storm (The Invisible Woman), Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm (The Thing), and Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm (The Human Torch).

The trailer introduces Dr. Storm, played by Mara’s former House of Cards costar Reg E. Cathey. In the clip, Dr. Storm defends his work before a committee, touting the genius of young scientist Richards.

“He knows answers to questions we don’t even know to ask yet,” he says.

The video goes on to show the origin of the franchise’s superheroes – a teleportation incident gone awry. The trip to an unknown, otherworld causes the quartet to gain unique and superhuman abilities.

As the Four struggle to understand their new powers, a voice warns “You don’t know anything about what’s coming.”

“What’s coming?” Richards asks, to which the speaker responds “Doom.” The trailer shows a brief glimpse of the films supervillain, Dr. Doom, played by Toby Kebbell.

The new film will hit theaters on August 7, 2015.
