In her latest role, Emma Stone just can’t escape the wrath of the rumor mill. In real life, the actress, 21, is still waiting for her tabloid debut.

“I haven’t really heard any [rumors about me], but I keep encouraging people to please make some up,” she tells PEOPLE. “They are always so much better than the truth.”

In Easy A, which arrives in theaters on Friday, Stone showcases her natural comedic chops as a pretend-promiscuous teen whose string of faux sexual conquests is the talk of the town. But this actress has a fantasy scandal of her own: “That Charlie Chaplin came back to life,” she says, “and he’s letting me play his love interest in his new movie.”

For Stone, it’s not easy stripping down into lacey corsets or undergarments, like she did in Easy A and her 2008 comedy The House Bunny. That’s the charm of her characters, she says, and her role is never the “sexpot.”

“I’m not there to be the token sexy girl,” she says. “I don’t know that I would ever be able to pull that off. It’s nice that those characters I’ve played feel uncomfortable as well because it’s so much more realistic.”
