"Honored to be on the arm of this double nominee tonight!" She Dedicated Her Emotional Acceptance Speech at the Screen Actors Guild Awards to Him

"I’m going to share this completely with my husband John Krasinski, because the entire experience of doing this with you has completely pierced my heart directly," Blunt said in her acceptance speech for outstanding performance by an actress in a supporting role for her turn in A Quiet Place, written and directed by Krasinski.

"You are a stunning filmmaker, I’m so lucky to be with you and to have done this film with you. Thank you for giving me the part. You would have been in major trouble if you hadn’t though, you didn’t really have an option," she joked, before giving a sweet shoutout to the couple's two children. "Thank you to the two little poems in our life, our daughters Hazel and Violet who will have to be at least 45 before they can see this film but they will proud of you, nonetheless."

He Sobbed While Watching Her in Mary Poppins Returns

Krasinski admitted on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that he was unexpectedly overcome with emotion while watching his wife portray the titular magical nanny during an early showing of the film. "25 minutes into the movie, I stood up and went to the back of the room, and Emily said, 'Do you not like it? I’ve never seen this happen.' And I was pushing through all the muffins and bagels that were in the back looking for napkins. I was like, 'I need anything to stop this crying!' I was crying so much. I blew through the tissue box in 20 minutes, had to go to the napkins, and when I ran out of napkins, it’s just all sweater." Sweet and sensitive — *sigh*.

He Loves the Range of Roles She’s Played

At the 2018 SCAD Savannah Film Festival, the A Quiet Place stars sat down with EW and revealed their favorite films the other has starred in. "Everybody keeps making fun of me for it, but The Devil Wears Prada was just one of those things where it was sort of my introduction to her," Krasinski started off. Referencing Blunt’s roles in Sicario, Girl on the Train, and the upcoming Mary Poppins Returns, Krasinski said simply, "there’s nothing she can’t do."

She Has Her Favorites Too

Talking with EW, the actor jokingly predicted, "She’s gonna say she hasn’t seen anything I’ve done." But Blunt proved him wrong, sharing, "I love him in A Quiet Place, I think he’s really stunning in it, but I loved him in Away We Go. I think he was just awesome in it. I loved his big shaggy beard and the hair and he was so authentic and funny. I think that’s one of my favorites that he’s done."

They Always Put Family First

Credit: Cindy Ord/Getty

If you think your commute is bad, just imagine how Krasinski felt when flying over 6,000 miles every weekend to see his family while shooting Jack Ryan. Although his trips from Montreal to London (where Blunt was shooting Mary Poppins Returns) were quite the trek, he only looked forward to them. Being with his wife and daughters "is not a job or a duty, it’s something I just can’t wait to do. I can’t wait to get back to them. We always make time to see each other," he told PEOPLE at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival on October 27, 2018. "We have been working a lot this year and we feel so blessed, but at the same time our kids come first and being together comes first," he added.

He was Terrified to Ask Her to Costar in A Quiet Place

Although he had his wife in mind when writing the script for his directorial debut, Krasinski says he couldn't bring himself to ask her to play the role. "I got so scared," he said. "First, that she would say 'no,' because that’s just gonna be an awkward dinner. But I was actually more afraid that she’d say, 'Yes, I’ll do it for you.'" He went on to gush about Blunt and how he didn't want to influence her decision-making process. "I’ve been next to her when she’s made all these amazing decisions and she’s without a doubt the classiest, smartest, most dedicated actress I’ve ever known," Krasinski added. "And when you see how much she puts into every role, I didn’t want her to come to set just for me."

So She Asked Him Instead

Credit: Paul Zimmerman/BAFTA/Shutterstock

Blunt ended up asking if she could read the A Quiet Place script while they were on a flight, and her reaction made for a memorable moment. "[When she finished], she genuinely looked sick," Krasinski teased. "I was reaching for a barf bag thinking she was gonna throw up, and instead she said, 'You can’t let anyone do this movie.' It was like a romantic comedy, where she was like proposing to me," he continued. "She was like, 'You have to let me play this part.' And I think I just screamed, 'Yes' on this flight."

He Thinks She’s Insanely Talented

Credit: Kevin Mazur/Getty

Krasinski couldn't help but gush to Vanity Fair about Blunt's acting chops, which he says are much better than his own. "The air changes in the room when she starts doing what she does," he said. "It’s so honest and so pure and so powerful. It's like a superpower that she can just unlock and do so specifically with not many attempts." He continued: "For me, I love acting, and I’m so lucky to be doing it. But she’s on another plane. This weird intersection happened while filming where I totally forgot I was her husband. I was just watching her performance and was lucky enough to be in the front row."

Working with Him Is ‘Her Favorite’

Credit: Noam Galai/WireImage

“My favorite thing about shooting A Quiet Place for sure was working with John,” Blunt told reporters in the SAG Awards press room after her win in 2019. “We had never done it before and it is kind of the great unknown.”

She continued, “You go into this process not knowing what it’s going to be like. A lot of people were like ‘You’re going to be divorced by the end of it,’ but we were so much closer. I think the discovery of how we collaborated and could create something together was just so special.”
