Diego Luna is strapping into the virtual cockpit.
“Woah,” said Luna — who portrays Captain Cassian Andor, a Rebel Alliance Intelligence officer, in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story — as he took the controls of the Rebellion X-wing fighter. “Cool.”
As he dodged the enemy and headed toward the Death Star, Luna narrated, “We’re in the cockpit, I’m piloting I guess. There’s stuff coming at us — They’re firing at us! We gotta get out of here!”
The virtual reality experience was created by Lucasfilm’s ILMxLAB and Verizon. Users can fully immerse themselves using VR goggles by downloading the LIFE VR app for iOS and Android or visit time.com/lifevr. (Don’t have goggles? They’re included in PEOPLE’s new special issue, Star Wars: The Secrets of Rogue One, at newsstands now! Click here for an easy guide on how to assemble them.) The experience is also available in Verizon stores across the nation with Samsung Gear VR headsets.
If you don’t have goggles, check out the 360° video above, explorable by clicking and dragging your mouse across the screen. You’ll visit the Rogue One set and go behind the scenes of a battle between rebels and stormtroopers — a stunning interactive experience available exclusively from PEOPLE.
Luna also opened up to PEOPLE Now about the film’s diverse cast, explaining, “It’s a much more modern approach. It’s not just the diversity, the different kind of accents. The role of the woman in this film. I think it’s a film that talks more about the reality we live in, the world we live in.”
Rogue One hits theaters Dec. 16.
