Say hello to the new king of the jungle!

This first glimpse of Alexander Skarsgard in character for the upcoming The Legend of Tarzan will certainly incite swoons.

The hunky True Blood star, who is taking on the titular role as the iconic jungle dweller, looks toned and trim in costume in the newly released images from director David Yates’ re-imagining of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan.

The pictures, which also include a strawberry blonde Margot Robbie as heroine and love interest Jane, are set in the misty African landscape.

Unlike previous versions of Tarzan’s tale, Yates’ story finds the character living in Victorian London with wife Jane, years after leaving the jungle behind, according to USA Today.

In the film, Tarzan returns to the Congo as an emissary of Parliament and is immediately re-embedded into his old lifestyle.

Skarsgard, 39, told USA Today he adopted a strict workout regimen for four months to get in tip-top shape for the role.

“I basically didn’t see my family or my friends,” he told the newspaper, adding that the part was still “definitely worth getting up at 4:30 in the morning.”

Yates said that Tarzan requires muscles, but “more a leaner, longer, more vertical modern man than the square-jawed stereotype we’re used to,” so Skarsgard fit the part.

The Legend of Tarzan, which also stars Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz, is set to hit theaters on July 1, 2016.
