There’s no denying that Channing Tatum makes one sexy stripper and has the world drooling in anticipation of Magic Mike XXL, out July 1.

But what is Everly – Tatum’s 2-year-old daughter with wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum – going to think of the risqué films when she gets older?

“Yeah. I showed it to her,” Tatum jokes to PEOPLE. “She loved it, it was great, but she didn’t like the lighting – not a fan.”

Okay, no, Everly hasn’t seen either Magic Mike film just yet. But Tatum is prepared for the day he has to sit Everly down to give her the “once upon a time, Daddy played a stripper” talk.

“She’s gonna see it; there’s no way I could shelter her from it. I’m setting aside money for college and for therapy,” Tatum jokes in PEOPLE’s new cover story.

“But you know, I can’t change the fact that I did this in real life,” adds Tatum, who famously worked as an actual stripper briefly before his career took off. “I’m not ashamed of anything I’ve ever done. I think we teach better through our behavior and by our experiences rather than trying to design some lesson.”
