VIDEO: Stephen Colbert and Casey Affleck Wonder If They'll Come to Blows After Incredibly Awkward Late Show Interview
Colbert ribbed the actor for wearing casual clothing – and things went downhill from there
Well, that was awkward.
Casey Affleck‘s interview seemingly didn’t go as planned when he stopped by The Late Show Monday night, and found himself in a verbal sparring match with host Stephen Colbert just seconds after sitting down.
As soon as Affleck, 40, took the stage, Colbert, 51, ribbed the Triple 9 actor for sporting far more scruff than normal and wearing casual clothing.
“Thanks for dressing up,” he joked. “I can’t tell whether this choice is the least celebrity thing to do or the most celebrity thing to do because it’s very casual.”
While the audience laughed at the quip, Affleck was visibly uncomfortable with the playful jab. “Well, you look great,” he said.
“I’m not saying you don’t look good,” Colbert said to ease the tension. “It is just some playful ribbing.”
Affleck then awkwardly turning his attention to his glass of water in attempt to change the subject. But unfortunately, Colbert wasn’t done.
“How long as we going to talk about this?” Affleck asked.
“Until I get to my joke,” the host shot back. “It’s not a joke though. You really look like a street corner Jesus.”
Finally, Colbert moved the conversation on to Affleck’s new film, Triple 9, but the actor still seemed a bit on edge.
“We should probably end up fighting at the end of this,” Colbert joked, acknowledging the tension. “It feels like this is where this is going.”
Affleck knows a thing or two about awkward interviews.
