Love ain’t easy.

Actor Brian Austin Green opened up about making his marriage to actress Megan Fox work in the latest episode of the …with Brian Austin Green podcast, admitting that building a life together isn’t always smooth sailing.

“Marriage is hard,” he explained. “It’s work, I think for anyone. I think when you get to the point like we have, where you have kids and you’ve been married for a while and we’ve been together for a long time, it’s – you just take it day by day.”

The 44-year-old continued, “You’re in it and then if you’re not, then you look back and you go, ‘That was a great 13 years.’ ”

Green and Fox, 31, have had their fair share of ups and downs. In August 2015, five years into their marriage, Fox filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. The two then announced that they were having a third child together — and reconciled the following year.

Seemingly alluding to their 2015 split, Green shared on the podcast, “I have no problem with something not working, I really hold no expectations. I try to live day by day… Some people look at divorce or things not working as like a disappointment and it’s not. The fact that it worked at all is a positive.”

“We have three amazing kids,” he said. “We’ve had and have a great relationship and you know we’re just taking it day by day.”

Adding that he hates “being single,” Green admitted that “to be in a relationship takes work and it’s not easy.”

The couple shares three children together: Noah, 4, Bodhi, 3, and 13-month-old Journey— and Green has a teenage son, Kassius, from a previous relationship.

Earlier this year, Green shared similar sentiments with reporters at the Women’s Choice Awards, saying of marriage, “I don’t know what the secret is. Just stick it out. Like fighting and making up, believing in each other.”
