Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie will star in – and Jolie will write and direct – the “intimate, character-driven drama” By the Sea, Universal Pictures announced Friday. The film will mark the A-list pair’s first onscreen reunion since 2005’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Earlier this month, PEOPLE confirmed the engaged couple would shoot a movie in Malta for about eight weeks. Though it’s still unclear whether By the Sea is that project, the Mediterranean setting would be a perfect fit for the title. And Pitt isn’t Jolie’s only family costar – the mom of six teamed up with Vivienne, 6, Zahara, 9, and Pax, 10, in Maleficent. By the Sea will be Jolie’s third time in the director’s seat for a feature-length film, following her debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey, and follow-up, Unbroken. The latter, which chronicles the late World War II vet and Olympian Louis Zamperini, is due Christmas day. • Reporting by MARY GREEN Want more stories like this?
