Ben Affleck was seen wearing a white hospital gown and sporting a bandage on his nose with several cuts and bruises on his face while shooting his new film
Ben Affleck‘s got some serious ink.
The Oscar winner, 43, was spotted on set of Live By Night on Tuesday, showing off some major body art.
As Affleck walked around set, the hospital gown he was wearing for the scene flapped open, exposing a giant tattoo on his back. His full ink featured a large Phoenix taking flight, with additional art surrounding it.
And PEOPLE has learned that the tattoo is the real deal.
A glimpse of the tattoo was first seen earlier this summer, but this is the first time it’s been visible in its entirety.
And this large-scale body art is not the only tattoo Affleck has sported. The actor had a dolphin on his right hip covering up the name of his high-school sweetheart, and has been seen with barbed wire across his right bicep, a large design featuring a fish and a skull and crossbones on his right arm and some initials inscribed on his shoulder blade.
But his tattoo wasn’t the only shocking part of his day on set. Affleck looked bloody and all banged up while shooting scenes for his upcoming film.
The actor was seen wearing a white hospital gown and sporting a bandage on his nose with several cuts and bruises on his face. His right knuckle also had a huge gash, while his left hand was wrapped in gauze.
His new look – tattoo and all – is fitting for his role as a Prohibition era mobster. The period drama, on which Affleck serves as screenwriter, director and actor, takes place in the 1920s and tells the story of a police captain’s son navigating a criminal underworld.
Since filming began in October, Affleck has been working around the clock on his latest directorial effort.
“Ben has spent every possible hour of the day working,” a source on the set told PEOPLE. “He is the first to arrive in the morning, sometimes as early as 5 a.m., and the last to leave at night.”
