Ben Affleck 'Really Wanted' His Relationship with Ana de Armas 'to Work': 'He Has Been Upset' (Source)
PEOPLE confirmed on Monday that the actors recently called it quits after less than a year of dating
Ben Affleck was hoping that Ana de Armas was the one.
After a source close to the two told PEOPLE that the pair recently split, a source says that Affleck, 48, was invested in the success of his relationship with de Armas, 32, whom he was first linked to in early 2020.
"Ben really wanted their relationship to work," the source tells PEOPLE. "Ana has a great energy. Ben was always very happy when Ana was around. She likes to stay healthy and inspired Ben to keep staying healthy too."
However, the pair's relationship "was very complicated," the source notes. "Ana is young and adventurous," adds the source. "When she is not working, she wants to travel. She doesn't want to settle down in Los Angeles. Ben needs to live in L.A. since his kids do."
While Affleck "has been upset about the split," the source says that the Gone Girl actor "is committed to focus on the happy things in his life."
Affleck and de Armas, who first met while filming the upcoming thriller Deep Water in New Orleans in late 2019, had been romantically linked since early March 2020, when they were seen on a trip to her native Cuba.
They then headed to Costa Rica for a romantic vacation before returning to Los Angeles.

The pair were frequently seen together during the summer as they both spent the quarantine period in Los Angeles. The Knives Out actress confirmed their relationship on Instagram in April when she shared photos of them spending time together for her 32nd birthday.
Early on in their romance, de Armas spent quality time with Affleck and his kids, whom he shares with ex-wife Jennifer Garner: daughters Violet, 15, and Seraphina, 12, as well as 8-year-old son Samuel.
A source close to Affleck and de Armas confirmed to PEOPLE on Monday that the decision to separate was "mutual and something that is completely amicable."
"They are in different points in their lives; there is deep love and respect there," added the source.
Another source told PEOPLE that the pair broke up over the phone. "They have had numerous discussions about their future and they decided together to break up," the source said.
