Ben Affleck and Lindsay Shookus Stay Close at 'Triple Frontier' Premiere in New York City

Ben Affleck and Lindsay Shookus stuck close together at the Triple Frontier premiere afterparty

Ben Affleck had Lindsay Shookus by his side for support on a big night for the actor.

The two stepped out together for the premiere of Netflix’s Triple Frontier, which also stars Charlie Hunnam, Pedro Pascal, Garrett Hedlund and Oscar Isaac.

While Affleck, 46, and the Saturday Night Live producer, 38, didn’t walk the red carpet together, they were seen walking out together in the snowy weather.

After the premiere, the pair headed to the afterparty where they stayed close to each other while Affleck made the rounds talking to people.

Two days earlier, the pair were spotted taking a stroll in New York City. The outings come less than a month after a source told PEOPLE that Affleck and Shookus “struck up a friendship again” and were “spending time together” nearly six months after their split last August.

The insider added that both have been more focused on their respective careers and families vs. rekindling a full-blown romance.

“He really enjoys spending time with her but his focus will remain his kids and family,” said the Affleck pal. “I think he’s always been interested in seeing where his relationship with Lindsay could go, but these are two people who are very focused on their families and that distance between New York and L.A. is difficult sometimes.”

The long distance was allegedly a major factor in why the former couple split last August, after nearly a year of dating. Affleck and Shookus first made their relationship public when they were spotted grabbing dinner in July 2017.

“It was amicable, but unfortunately it didn’t work out, partly because of work and family obligations on different coasts,” the Affleck friend told PEOPLE at the time. “They truly cared for each other and tried to make it work. Unfortunately now is not the time.”

Affleck is L.A.-based, where he lives near ex Jennifer Garner, 46, and their children Violet, 13, Seraphina, 10, and Samuel, 6. Meanwhile, Shookus lives across the country in New York City, where she works on SNL and shares custody of a 5-year-old daughter with ex-husband Kevin Miller.

The movie’s promotion is the first time Affleck has stepped out publicly since completing his 40-day stay at a rehab facility last fall. In a candid interview alongside Hunnam on Monday’s Today, Affleck told Hoda Kotb that it “doesn’t really bother” him to talk about his sobriety journey.

“Being an alcoholic, it’s part of my life, it’s something that I deal with,” said Affleck, 46. “It doesn’t have to subsume my whole identity and be everything but it is something that you have to work at.”

“I had a problem and I really want to address it and I take some pride in that,” he added. “It’s about yourself, your life, your family…we encounter these kinds of hurdles and we have to deal with them.”
