Every good mobster needs a getaway car.

Ben Affleck was spotted looking like a serious crime boss as he was seen driving an vintage car on set of his upcoming film Live By Night on Monday.

The actor, 44, kept a tight grip on the steering wheel and a stern look on his face as he shot scenes for the Prohibition-era film.

After filming for several weeks in Brunswick, Georgia, Affleck – who is directing the movie and wrote the script – moved production to Lawrence, Massachusetts, a town 30 miles north of Boston. Later this month, filming is scheduled to move to Boston’s North End.

And while Affleck has spent “every possible hour of the day working” since filming began in October, he took a break this weekend to fly back to Los Angeles and spend time with his kids.

On Saturday, Affleck and Jennifer Garner, who announced their divorce this June, spent the day as a family with their three kids, Violet 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel 4, decorating cupcakes and stopping at a toy store.

“The kids seemed very happy to be with Ben. They took turns holding his hand for much of the day,” a source tells PEOPLE. “Ben and Jen also seemed okay. They chatted a bit, but mostly seemed focused on making the day fun for the kids.”

The actor returned to set on Monday, where a second source tells people he’s been “very focused on making a great movie.”

The film, which is based on Dennis Lehane’s award-winning novel about gangsters during Prohibition, also stars Sienna Miller, Zoe Saldana, Elle Fanning and Chris Cooper.

Although an official release date has yet to be set for the movie, it’s expected to hit theaters sometime in 2017.
