Avengers: Endgame Brings the Laughs in TV Spot Featuring All-New Footage
Marvel still knows how to have fun.
A new TV spot for Avengers: Endgame features footage from the upcoming movie that is a lot lighter and more in tone with the humor that fans have come to expect from Marvel movies. The spot showed fan-favorite characters interacting, including Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner’s reunion.
“Under different circumstances this would be totally awesome,” Renner tells Johansson as the two strap into a futuristic space craft.
Previous trailers have all been darker and more serious as the Avengers deal with the aftermath of bad guy Thanos snapping away half the universe. OG Avengers like Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Evans‘ Captain America bring the weight of the catastrophe back into the spot, with new scenes of the team getting ready to fight again.
“It’s time to live up to our name. This is our Hail Mary,” Downey narrates.
Endgame will clock in at three hours and two minutes, making it the longest Marvel movie yet. In a new interview with Vulture, the screenwriters of the film, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, insist the film is as “lean” in its runtime as possible.
“It’s exactly as long as it needs to be,” McFeely said. “Any shorter and it would have felt like we weren’t honoring all the threads and franchises that are feeding into this climax.”
The two also faced the challenge of culminating 11 years worth of movies, beginning with the release of Iron Man in 2008.
“Twenty-two movies in, not only has the movie earned its length, but people deserve a movie of that substance,” McFeely continued. “I swear to God, it sounds like a paradox to say this, but it’s a lean three hours!”
Avengers: Endgame opens in theaters April 26.
