Anthony Mackie Marries His Childhood Sweetheart

The Captain America star quietly wed his longtime girlfriend last year

Anthony Mackie is officially a married man.

The Captain America star quietly wed his childhood sweetheart, Sheletta Chapital, six months ago, PEOPLE has confirmed.

Mackie, 36, and Chapital tied the knot in December during a small ceremony at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, reports The New York Post’s Page Six, which first broke the news.

“It was low-key and super relaxed,” a source told the outlet. “They had a welcome dinner. We golfed and drank. They went on a honeymoon soon after.”

The actor and his longtime girlfriend first met in grade school.

Speaking about their first meeting, Mackie said on The Queen Latifah Show, “It was funny. I was coming from a very bad school and going to a very good school. And when I walked into second grade it was Dr. Seuss Day, and we had the little hot plate out and the teacher was making green eggs and ham.”

“So I walk in and I looked and I see this little girl with these ratty pigtails and skinny legs, and I was like, ‘Wow!’ ”

The happy couple have been together on and off ever since, and remained committed to one another after their baby boy was born in 2009.
