Angelina Jolie Pitt and Brad Pitt play a struggling couple in their new movie By the Sea, but in real life it’s the complete opposite story.

The A-list couple, who recently celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary, looked so in love at the film’s New York City screening on Tuesday, where they exchanged sweet glances and kept close to one another on the red carpet.

Jolie Pitt, 40, and Pitt, 51, were in bright spirits at the event after showing unwavering support for one another during their rare joint interview on The Today Show.

The actress and director opened up about her decision to undergo two preventive surgeries to reduce the risk of cancer.

“I knew through the surgeries that he was on my side and that this wasn’t something where I was going to feel less of a woman, because my husband wasn’t going to let that happen,” Jolie Pitt said when discussing her double mastectomy in 2013 and procedure to remove her ovaries.

All while, Pitt was his wife’s number support system.

“Whatever’s got to be done to keep the family together, and keep the family together as long as possible is going to be done,” he explained. “This was her charge, no question. It’s a scary decision. There’s many things that can go wrong and go many different directions.”

For the first time in 10 years, the power couple are together on screen in a film directed and written by Jolie.

By the Sea tells the story of a struggling marriage between Vanessa (Jolie Pitt), a former dancer, and her writer husband, Roland (Pitt). “It focuses on three couples, all at different stages in their lives,” the mother of six told PEOPLE in August. “And at its center are the questions of what happened to Roland and Vanessa, and why they are in the place they are now.”

By the Sea hits theaters Nov. 13
