Amy Schumer 'Sickened by the Cowardice' of the Senate on Gun Control Votes

Amy Schumer vented about the Senate's failure to pass gun control laws to Politico on Wednesday

Amy Schumer is putting the U.S. Senate on blast after it failed to pass a series of gun control measures this week.

“I am sickened by the cowardice of these people who are supposed to lead us,” Schumer told Politico. “Their dedication seems to be only to dollar signs for their own pockets. In November, we will remember who stood with the gun lobby, rather than their constituents, as we mourned for Orlando.”

The Senate rejected four new gun control proposals on Monday, juts one week after the mass shooting in Orlando that claimed 49 lives.

Schumer became an ardent gun control supporter last summer after a man opened fire in a movie theater during a showing of her film Trainwreck. She has worked with her cousin, Sen. Chuck Schumer, to call for stricter gun laws and universal background checks.

“After the shooting at a screening of Trainwreck last July, the deaths of Mayci Breaux and Jillian Johnson made gun violence in America a deeply personal issue for Amy,” Dan Powell, executive producer of Schumer’s TV show, Inside Amy Schumer told Politico.

“She pledged to add her voice to those advocating for safer gun laws. The show had already set a precedent in our first few seasons of covering political and social issues of importance to Amy, so it was a natural fit.”
