Amy Schumer on Her Relationship: 'I Feel Like Ben Is the First Guy Who's Really Been My Boyfriend'

Amy Schumer is happy in love.

Schumer opened up about her relationship with Chicago-based furniture designer Ben Hanisch, admitting that while she’s been in other romantic relationships in the past, none compare to her bond with Hanisch.

“I feel like Ben is the first guy who’s really been my boyfriend,” she told Marie Claire in its August issue. “There are guys who, if they heard me say that, would want to punch me in the face, but yeah, it’s the truth.”

Since taking their relationship public in January, the lovebirds have not been shy about sharing their affection for each other in numerous Instagram photos and red carpet interviews.

Despite their PDA, the actress is the first to admit that the relationship can be overwhelming at times and she catches herself having doubts.

“Being in love is the scariest thing in the world. You want to f—— cry and scream. I can’t handle it. Every time we say goodbye, I think, ‘This will have been a nice last week together.’ Or I tell myself nothing is real and he’s going to leave me and tell me he never loved me,” she said.

“I feel so bad for him,” she continued. “How exhausting it must be dating me.”

Schumer and Hanisch celebrated their six-month dating anniversary in May with a PDA-filled trip to Hawaii. The two were seen taking walks along the water, dipping into a picnic basket on the beach and even riding the waves together.

“Amy is so, so happy,” a source told PEOPLE when they first started dating. “He constantly tells her how pretty, sexy and perfect she is. She feels like she hit the jackpot.”
