All About Bradley Cooper's Whirlwind Marriage to Jennifer Esposito
Esposito, 45, commented on an Instagram photo actor and comedian David Spade shared on Instagram of Cooper and Lady Gaga snuggled up during their charged “Shallow” performance at the Oscars on Sunday with the caption, “Is there any chance these 2 aren’t f——?”
The actress, who was married to Cooper for just a few months, commented, “Ha.”
Here’s everything to know about Esposito’s short-lived relationship with Cooper.
1. The pair were quiet about their relationship
When asked if they were an item at the InStyle Golden Globes Party in 2006, Esposito told PEOPLE coyly, “I’m not answering that.”
Their romance wouldn’t stay a secret for long, however.
2. Happily engaged
Esposito and Cooper became engaged just a few months after they were spotted together, when PEOPLE confirmed the news in October 2006.
The actress was spotted shopping for a wedding dress in Los Angeles at the time, while Cooper was busy working on projects such as Alias, Kitchen Confidential and Failure to Launch.
Esposito, meanwhile, was working on Law & Order.
3. Whirlwind wedding and divorce
The two tied the knot in late December 2006, which PEOPLE confirmed the following month. Their vows took place in the South of France and the wedding was a relatively low-key affair.
While the couple enjoyed their time together, their marriage would soon take a turn just four months later when Esposito filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences.
A rep for the actress said in a statement at the time, “Jennifer Esposito has filed for divorce. She asks that you respect her privacy at this time.”
Cooper’s rep said in a separate statement, “The divorce was mutual and they’ve been separated for quite a while.”
4. Bad blood?
In 2014, Esposito released her memoir Jennifer’s Way: My Journey with Celiac Disease — What Doctors Don’t Tell You and How You Can Learn to Live Again in which she claimed one of her exes — although she doesn’t name who — was a “master manipulator.”
“He was funny, smart cocky, arrogant and a master manipulator,” the actress wrote. “I didn’t necessarily find him that attractive, but I figured that I could enjoy his sense of humor and nonsense for a while.”
She added, “We had fun, but he also had a mean, cold side. His personality could flip on a dime.”
Speculation abounded that Esposito was referring to Cooper, although the former Blue Bloods actress never named the ex she spoke of.
Esposito referred to that relationship as having “an entire marching band squad of red flags,” although she declined to speak further on the matter in a statement.
“This book is about my journey with celiac disease and only that,” she said at the time. “To refer to anything other than the subject at hand or to make this book about anything else is an insult to me and this disease that plagues so many.”
