The sequel to Alice in Wonderland reunites Lewis Carroll's fantastical denizens in this eagerly anticipated big-screen follow-up

They’re plunging back into that cinematic rabbit hole.

The first trailer has dropped for Alice Through the Looking Glass, the highly anticipated sequel to the smash 2010 hit Alice in Wonderland, and it reunites the fantastical denizens from Lewis Carroll’s beloved tales.

Johnny Depp returns as the Mad Hatter, along with Anne Hathaway‘s White Queen, Helena Bonham Carter’s Red Queen and, of course, Mia Wasikowska as Alice herself.

And do they have quite the adventure waiting for them: The film picks up a few years after Wonderland, and finds Alice on a perilous quest that takes her through space and time to far-flung magical realms.

“You’ve been gone too long, Alice there are matters which might benefit from your attention,” an ominous voice intones.

In true Carroll fashion, the trailer is rife with crazy-quilt imagery teeming with magic and, yes, wonder, as Alice and crew embark on an adventure that spans fiery fields, churning seas and the vast reaches of whimsy.

Joining them are new cast members Sacha Baron Cohen and Rhys Ifans.

Alice Through the Looking Glass takes the plunge on May 27, 2016.
