Blake Lively‘s Age of Adaline character may have been born in 1901, but she appears to have no problem basking in a modern-day romance.

PEOPLE has an exclusive sneak peek of the 27-year-old Gossip Girl alum’s new film, in which she plays a beautiful woman who has miraculously stopped aging.

In the sneak-peek scene, Lively’s character Adaline is wooed with a delicious dinner cooked by her love interest Ellis, played by Game of Thrones actor Michiel Huisman, 33.

Directed by Lee Toland Krieger (Celeste & Jesse Forever and The Vicious Kind), the movie follows a young woman born at the turn of the 20th century who inexplicably becomes ageless following a car accident. After years of a lonely life, Adaline meets a man who forces her to rethink the mixed blessing that is immortality.

The Savages actress was thrilled to embrace the challenge of morphing into different decades.

“It’s a movie [about a woman] that was very empowered and in her own skin,” Lively told PEOPLE in January. “Looking at the evolution of what women have experienced [across decades], it had to be incredibly character-building.”

She also enjoyed getting dolled up in the styles of the ’20s, ’30s, ’40s and onward: “Going back to the fluffy side of myself – the hair and the makeup was awesome during those times,” she added.

Age of Adaline – which also stars Harrison Ford and Kathy Baker – hits theaters April 24.
