Adam DeVine's Go-To for Getting Out of the Doghouse? An 'Aggressive Smooch-Attack'
The Intern star opened up about what he does when he finds himself in hot water with girlfriend Chloe Bridges
While his character in The Intern finds himself beleaguered by relationship woes, Adam DeVine says he knows just what to do if he finds himself in hot water with girlfriend Chloe Bridges – not that it happens often.
“I do my best to not get too deep in the doghouse,” the actor, 31, told PEOPLE Monday at the comedy’s New York premiere, which he attended with his Pretty Little Liars actress girlfriend, 23.
“I’m still a child to where I think that, like, attacking her with smooches is the best way to do it. You know, I haven’t really done anything that’ll get me in trouble, so usually my aggressive smooch-attack will get me out of most trouble,” he says with a laugh, adding: “So far so good.”
While all’s well in his personal life, the Pitch Perfect star says he felt added pressure to stay out of the doghouse on the set while surrounded by industry vets like Anne Hathaway and, particularly, Robert De Niro.
“It was surreal. Robert De Niro is, like, an icon. You’re acting with the real Superman of acting, so I never in a million years thought that I would get to,” says DeVine.
“Basically the whole time it was just me going, like: ‘Don’t f— up! Don’t suck! Act good!’ ”
The Intern hits theaters Friday.
