PEOPLE's Sexiest Teacher Alive Nick Ferroni Surprises 'Superhero' Teachers with Makeovers and Epic Photo Shoot
"There are so many amazing teachers out there who give their hearts, souls, knowledge and money to their students every single day," Nick Ferroni tells PEOPLE
May 8 marks the start of Teacher Appreciation Week, and one New Jersey teacher is hoping the week-long celebration lasts all year.
Nick Ferroni, who was named PEOPLE’s Sexiest Teacher Alive in 2014, partnered with the Trunk Club in N.Y.C. to give some deserving teachers a celebrity-worthy makeover and photo shoot. The best part? All the participants involved in the project — from the photographer to the makeup artists (and NFL star Isa Abdul-Quddus!) — are former students.
“There are so many amazing teachers out there who give their hearts, souls, knowledge and money to their students every single day,” Ferroni, a Social Studies teacher at Union High School in Union, New Jersey, tells PEOPLE. “Teachers are the only people who have dedicated their lives to the success and happiness of other people’s children.
“So, to honor some amazing teachers from my town of Union, I joined forces with some former students who are very successful in their fields to give some amazing teachers a celebrity photoshoot and makeover.”
Ferroni, who has been using his voice to make a difference, inside and out of the classroom, hopes the campaign will kickstart a national conversation about “one of the most valuable professions,” he says.
“Every teacher is a superhero to his or her students, and I am going to launch a ‘Teacher Appreciation 365’ campaign to honor, celebrate and recognize teachers all year,” he says.
“I am also going to work on a bill to raise the amount of money that teachers can write off for school supplies on their taxes from $250 to at least $1,000, considering that the average teacher spends between $900-$1,100 on school supplies every year.”
