The company donates 1 percent of its product, equity and its employees’ time to philanthropic causes — making for seven days of paid time off for each employee, every year, to give back to the causes that are meaningful to them.
In March 2017, the company reported 15,000 volunteer hours globally.

The organization boasts four-month fellowships, a sustainability program and a summer scholar program all directed at solving social issues worldwide.

Comcast NBCUniversal has seen a 63 percent increase of women at VP+ levels and a 91 percent increase in number of people of color at VP+ levels since 2010. Additionally, 61 percent of Comcast NBCUniversal’s overall workforce was women or people of color at the end of 2017.

5. EDWARD JONES
Edward Jones is a financial services firm that works with individual investors and business owners.
The company recently increased their family leave to 120 days of paid maternity leave, 14 days of paid paternity leave and $5,000 in an adoption subsidy.
Edward Jones also rallies around employees in times of need. When one employee was diagnosed with cancer, five financial advisors shaved their heads in support.

SAP America is a software company that develops enterprise resource planning software for small and large businesses.
As of 2017, the Newtown Square, Pa.-based company covers costs of pharmaceutical puberty suppression for transgender children of SAP employees, in addition to other procedures for feminization and masculinization.

Cisco is a San Jose, Calif.-based technology company that develops, manufactures and sells networking equipment such as Internet Protocol-based networking technologies.
Their Disaster Incident Response Team (DIRT) ensures that a Tactical Operations team is deployed on the ground within 72 hours to help in a variety of emergency situations. The refugee crisis in Europe and North Uganda, Hurricane Harvey in Texas, and the Blue Cut Fire in California, all benefited from Cisco’s “TacOp” team.

Wegmans Food Market is a supermarket chain with 93 grocery store locations.
Over the years, Wegmans has donated 14.5 million pounds of food — the equivalent to 362 tractor trailer loads — and has raised millions of dollars annually for hunger relief.

12. VETERANS UNITED HOME LOANS
In 2016, the Veterans United Foundation donated $1.5 million to Welcome Home, a community for veterans, for the construction of a new emergency homeless shelter in Columbia, Missouri, where the company is based.
In 2017, Welcome Home served 175 individual veterans with more than 5,400 bed nights.

NVIDIA is an artificial intelligence company in Santa Clara, Calif., that contributes to virtual reality, learning and autonomous cars.
The company offers Stanford Health Navigator, which gives employees and their families live support to coordinate care for complex health issues. This benefit is available to NVIDIA employees even after they have retired or left the company for another job.
One NVIDIA employee in his early 40s was diagnosed with metastasized kidney cancer less than a year after joining the company. Through Stanford Health Navigator, he accessed some of the world’s top experts on the disease, who helped him get into medical trials that might otherwise have been inaccessible.

Autodesk is a software corporation with headquarters in San Rafael, Calif., and offices around the globe. Autodesk creates software for people who make things — specializing in 3D design, engineering, construction and entertainment software.
During Autodesk’s “Global Month of Impact” in May, more than 2500 employees in offices around the world took part in various service projects including packaging 61,000 meals for people in developing nations, transplanting more than 10,000 seedlings to help local ecologies and assembling 2,200 water filters to provide water for those in need.
Employees receive 48 hours of volunteer paid time off, and a week off between Christmas and the new year as a “Week of Rest.” They’re also given $300 a year in wellness subsidies.

Accenture is a global professional services company providing a broad range of services and solutions in strategy, consulting, digital, technology and operations.
The company currently employs more than 180,000 women, which is 41 percent of their global workforce. Women accounted for 32 percent of newly promoted managing directors globally — their largest percentage to date. Additionally, 29 percent of the company’s executives are women.
Accenture also rewards individuals who refer women, African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, veterans and persons with disabilities to the company.

Nationwide provides a broad range of insurance and financial products and services.
All employees at the insurance company — from administrative assistants to mailroom clerks to executives — are eligible for a bonus. The company has also addressed minimum wage, becoming one of the first companies to implement a universal minimum starting salary of $15 per hour in 2016.
Nationwide also offers support to associates who are victims of traumatic episodes outside of work, such as domestic violence, robbery or a family death. The Incident Management Team ensures the affected employees receive paid time off and connects them with local resources.

Quicken Loans is an online retail mortgage lender.
The company, which moved its headquarters to Detroit in 2010, has been instrumental in revitalizing the city, launching an urban renewal project and donating artwork from around the world to improve public spaces.
In addition, Quicken Loans has been revamping parks and working to stabilize the infrastructure in Detroit’s urban core. Quicken Loans also bought the first streetcar to Detroit in 60 years — as seen in the photo.
The company sponsors major events in downtown Detroit, including the Winter Blast Festival, and live bands in the parks.
Dropbox is a file hosting service.
The San Francisco-based Dropbox prioritizes its employees' well-being, giving them $100 per month to cover anything from running shoes to a personal trainer to stress reduction classes. Employees can also roll their allowance over and use it for a larger purchase — such as a bike or exercise equipment.
Dropbox also has a team of 38 chefs, which work to foster community among employees by serving three daily meals, a daily tea service, and gourmet snacks daily. The kitchen also grows its own vegetables and cures its own meats.

19. CHILDREN's HEALTHCARE OF ATLANTA
Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is a pediatric healthcare organization with three hospitals and 27 neighborhood locations.
This year, employees worked with the Georgia Aquarium to allow young rehab patients to swim with whale sharks in a large saltwater tank — as seen in the photo. The organization also throws Child Life Carnivals, where families and employes come together and enjoy karaoke, face painting, and IV bag tosses, among other activities.
Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta also hosts Camp Strong4Life, which is open to rising fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders struggling with their weight. Since 2011, Camp Strong4Life has hosted more than 387 campers and their families.
20. SOUTHERN OHIO MEDICAL CENTER
The hospital creates strong relationships with their surrounding communities by understanding and appreciating the specific needs of those people living around them.
Located in the heart of Appalachia — where unemployment is high — the medical center provides $10,500 tuition assistance to employee family members interested in pursuing an education in healthcare.
In addition, the Southern Ohio Medical Center works with diabetes, drug addiction and local health needs through outreach programs in their community.

Patagonia is an American clothing company that designs and sells outdoor gear in various retail stores.
Through a new “Provisions” business, the company now sells sustainably sourced food and beverage products.
Patagonia also offers employees full pay and benefits for up to two months while they intern full-time with the non-profit environmental group of their choice. Additionally, the company provides training that covers the history of social protest and information on how a protest functions for employees who engage in social and environmental activism.

22. NUSTAR ENERGY L.P.
NuStar Energy is is an independent liquids terminal and pipeline operator.
Headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, the company rallied when Hurricane Harvey hit. NuStar provided housing for displaced employees, contracted with a catering service to provide three hot meals per day and arranged for independent adjusters to assist employees with their insurance claims, among other acts of service.
NuStar and the Greehey Family Foundation made a combined contribution of $500,000 to the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and the San Antonio Food Bank in the wake of the hurricane as well.
In addition, NuStar employees donated and delivered over 4,000 pounds of items to the San Antonio Food Bank.

23. ST. JUDE CHILDREN'S RESEARCH HOSPITAL
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a research hospital finding cures for pediatric cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
The hospital provides above and beyond attention to the care of patients — in one case, working around animal restrictions to bring a German Shepherd puppy to a teenage girl’s side a week before she died.
The Memphis, Tenn. hospital’s Institutional Resilience Center combines counseling, spiritual services, grief support, health services and crisis management to ensure its employees feel fully supported. In 2017, the center ran a program called “3 Good Things,” which encouraged participants to remember and appreciate the positive things in daily life.

Activision Blizzard is an interactive entertainment company with franchises including Call of Duty and Candy Crush.
The company’s Call of Duty Endowment funds organizations that help unemployed and underemployed veterans reenter the workforce. The endowment has funded more than 40,000 job placements for veterans, beating their original goal of 25,000 two years ahead of schedule.
Activision Blizzard is also working to diversify the workforce by collaborating with organizations such as the NOH8 Campaign, GeekGirls and Society of Women Engineers to reach underrepresented communities.

Rackspace is a cloud-based computing company.
The company has moved its offices to a depressed area in San Antonio, Texas where they're based, and transformed the suburb to a thriving workspace dubbed the Castle — as seen in the photo above.
The Rackspace Foundation — which is fully funded by employees— has “adopted” the nearby Roosevelt High School, as well as the six elementary and middle schools that feed into Roosevelt. The foundation invests in enrichment programs for underserved and at-risk students.
The popular mobile service provider features CarePlus service, where employees can access 30 new experimental and expanded services, including groundbreaking MRI techniques, male fertility tests, a wearable vision-assist device and a service dog specifically and individually trained to perform tasks to benefit individual needs.
AT&T also leads #SpreadTheCheer, which began as a holiday campaign but now runs year-round.
The initiative lets employees to submit ideas for what they would do with $1,000 to brighten a person’s day—some of which the company then fulfills. One employee paid for back-to-school shopping for customers at WalMart, while another funded a veteran's honor flight.

Workday, Inc. is an IT company that specializes in cloud applications that support financial management, human capital management and analytics.
During the Pleasanton, Calif., company’s Workforce Week, employees from 13 offices around the world volunteer at local organizations. Together, they've helped more than 1,000 job seekers and employees and have contributed 1,100 volunteer hours since 2015.
Workday also runs a six-month program for five to 10 participants each year called “New Rise.” New Rise enables underrepresented minority employees to move to the highest level of executive ranks by strengthening their social capital.

28. O.C. TANNER
O.C. Tanner is a manufacturing, sales and software development company that helps companies build successful workplace cultures through employee rewards and recognition.
Headquartered in Utah, the company partnered with One Refugee, a local organization aimed at improving refugee prosperity. O.C. Tanner created a full-time position on staff to support One Refugee’s efforts by matching refugee individuals with potential employers.
O.C. Tanner also offers 10 to 13 new scholarships for its employees’ children and grandchildren each year. One scholarship recipient, Kristy — the daughter of an O.C. Tanner cafeteria worker — went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah and eventually a PhD from the University of Arizona.

Cooley LLP is a global law firm that allots three percent of all of their billable hours to pro bono cases and causes, such as foster care and asylum cases.

This year, each Cooley office decorated and donated 320 “Sweet Cases,” AKA duffel bags that their nonprofit partner distributes to social workers.

IKEA is a home furnishings retailer.
The retailer supports immigrants through its “5,000 Dreams” program — donating beds and bedding to refugee families in the United States.
IKEA also put a new parental leave policy in place in 2017, which provides up to four months of paid parental leave for all parents — mothers, fathers, birth, adoptive and foster parents.

Kimpton takes a multi-pronged approach to its diversity and inclusion efforts — providing a Pride Toolkit to each location to customize pride efforts, fostering partnerships with programs such as the Trevor Project and including employees at all levels on Kimpton’s National Diversity and Inclusion Board.
Kimpton also has gender-neutral bathrooms in their hotels and restaurants.
Frontline Management at Kimpton is made up of over half women and 39 minorities, and Executive/C-Level Leaders are 16 percent minority and 36 percent female. “Empowerment is one of the best things Kimpton does for the employees,” one employee said.

SAS Institute is an analytic software company that helps users battle cybercrime, improve education, child welfare and more.

In 2016, Nordstrom laid the groundwork to implement HERhealth and HERfinance programs in nine factories across three countries. These programs provide financial and health support and empower workers of many genders and ethnicities.

Hilton is a hotel and resort company that supports education opportunities for their employees and makes special effort to recruit veterans.
The McLean, Va., based company partnered with the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning to develop a program for U.S. team members who want to pursue their GED certificate or high school diploma.
Hilton also created a system of donated points from the Hilton Honors loyalty program for veterans who need to travel for job interviews, skills training or related events, making them eligible to receive 100,000 points toward free night stays.

Navy Federal Credit Union is a United States credit union that serves the military and their families.
The union’s Employee Loan Discount Program provides discounts on mortgages, equity and consumer loans and credit cards. They also subsidize summer camps for children at their two largest operations centers, and provide childcare subsidies through national centers.

REI Co-op is an retail and outdoor recreation services corporation.
Beginning in 2015, REI partnered with the National Park Foundation in a mutli-year, multi-million dollar effort to engage in conversations with public policymakers over the fate of the country’s national monuments.

Encompass Health is a home health care service provider.

The company’s CEO, Hamdi Ulakaya, emigrated from Turkey in 1994 — launching Chobani less than 15 years later. In 2017, Ulukaya — as seen in the photo — was named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in the World for his work around the refugee crisis.
The Chobani Foundation, based in Norwich, N.Y., aims to make food more available to young people and underserved communities, with team members volunteering at community events throughout the year.

40. RUBY RECEPTIONISTS
Ruby Receptionists is a virtual answering service for small businesses.
They provide their employees with a platform for creativity during their signature Launchpad event at their annual all-company meeting. Launchpad encourages employees to pitch their business ideas, with the winner receiving seed money for funding, and one paid day per month to work on developing their new business.
Ruby Receptionists also was one of the first Oregon businesses to increase its starting wage to $15 per hour. “Everyone is treated as an equal part of this company,” one employee wrote.

Additionally, the Mars Ambassador Program allows employees to travel the world assisting partner charity organizations. Groups have worked on projects related to coral reef preservation and sustainable techniques.
