Co-pilot Andreas Lubitz, who investigators say deliberately crashed Germanwings Flight 9525 into the French Alps on March 24, may have spiked the captain’s coffee to get him to leave the cockpit, according to a German newspaper.

Lubitz possibly mixed a diuretic drug into Captain Patrick Sondheimer’s drink, The Daily Telegraph reports, citing the German newspaper Bild.

This claim is largely speculative, the newspaper says.

On April 3, the BEA reported that Lubitz deliberately accelerated the plane into a descent.

He also reportedly researched suicide methods and cockpit security days before he crashed the plane.
