Dateless Teenager Wows at Prom with Her 'Dapper AF' Grandpa, Whose Suit Matches Her Dress
Grandfather to the rescue!
One California teenager’s prom turned into a sweet family memory after her grandfather learned she didn’t have a date for the high-school milestone.
Lancaster High School student Kaylah Bell, 17, shared the sweet story via Twitter on Sunday, writing, “My papa knew I didn’t have a date to my prom so he matched me !!”
Attached to the tweet are frame-worthy photos of the adorable duo in coordinating looks: While Bell dazzled in a patterned pink, purple and blue gown and purple cape, Alvin Hackett, 67, rocked a blue pinstripe suit, accented with a pink tie and pocket square.
Bell and Hackett beamed with big smiles in the images — and the internet also felt the love.
One Twitter user called Hackett “dapper af,” quipping, “I really hope I age this well.”
“We should all aspire to be this suave,” wrote another fan of the images.
Bell also received praise, with one commenter saying “this dress is gorgeous” and “you look beautiful.” Another said she’s “fine as hell” and “that’s why no Man is worthy Enough to be her date.”
Opening up about her initially challenging prom preparation, Bell told Yahoo Lifestyle, “I was talking to some people, but they all flaked out. It was really hard to find someone to commit to being my prom date.”
The outlet reports Bell wasn’t stressed because she could count on her grandfather.
“My grandpa was the only one that I knew would dress to impress,” Bell shared. “So, I had asked him to take pictures with me.”
A church pastor with a well-rounded wardrobe, Hackett didn’t need to look far for his prom threads.
“My grandpa is very stylish,” his granddaughter told the outlet, adding that Steve Harvey is Hackett’s fashion inspiration. “Every Sunday when we go to church, him and my grandma dress alike and dress together for church and banquets.”
Bell’s look, meanwhile, was inspired by Mary, Queen of Scots — and her grandparents helped her get the diamonds and material for her dramatic custom cape.
“I’m sure he already had a suit in his closet and put it together because he knew what my dress looked like,” she told Yahoo Lifestyle. “The matching suit and corsage was all his idea.”

The photos have received nearly 12,000 retweets and more than 100,000 likes so far — but the reaction at the actual prom was even sweeter.
“Everyone was in awe,” says the high school senior, who is set to attend Azusa Pacific University in the fall. “People were like, ‘You guys are so cute.’ Everyone knows my grandpa is important to me.”
“I felt blessed,” Bell told Yahoo Lifestyle of the heartwarming experience. “A lot of people don’t get to have opportunities like this. For my grandpa to be happy and eager to do it was amazing to me. I felt extremely loved.”
