Adam Levine has joined the many messages of grief for Voice alum Christina Grimmie, following her shocking death at an Orlando, Florida, concert Friday night.

“I’m sad, shocked and confused,” Levine wrote in an Instagram photo of him and Grimmie, posted soon after the news broke. “We love you so much Grimmie.”

“This just isn’t fair,” he wrote.

Grimmie joined Levine’s team back in season 6 of NBC’s reality singing competition – and she was the very first contestant to walk across the stage that year.

Levine’s own mentor, Graham Nash, later called her vocal talent “insane.”

Orlando police say that while Grimmie was signing autographs outside The Plaza following her concert, an unidentified man approached her and opened fire.

Grimmie’s brother Mark tackled the suspect before the suspect shot himself dead, police said. Grimmie was taken to an area hospital for treatment but died from her injuries.

The overnight news of her death spread quickly online, as #PrayforChristina became the top trending topic on Twitter. Fellow former Voice contestants joined in with their condolences, as did Levine’s fellow coach Blake Shelton.
