Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling and Oprah's New Zealand Adventures Are All Your Vacation (and Friendship) Goals
Reese's Down Under agenda includes hiking, going on a helicopter ride and . . . snuggling sheep?
Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling and Oprah may be appearing together in the forthcoming Disney movie A Wrinkle in Time, but the actresses have already proven their friendship goes beyond being cordial cast mates.
On Sunday, the Witherspoon and Kaling boarded a private jet together in Hawaii en route to New Zealand, where they’ll be shooting the live-action film, based on the novel by Madeleine L’Engle and directed by Frozen’s Jennifer Lee. Kaling, 37, even posted a selfie after she and Witherspoon got lei’d on the tarmac, below.
Witherspoon, 40, shared one of her own at the other end of the nine-hour flight, captioning it with a list of the things she’s determined to do on the island including, “1. Hike these mtns 2. Snuggle some sheep 3. Meet awesome Kiwis [a nickname for New Zealand locals].”
If Witherspoon seems extra prepared, it’s likely because she’s been psyched for days for her adventure Down Under, posting a cute packing portrait. “I’m off to @NewZealand!!! My first visit ever . . . What should I do? . . . Where should I go . . . Did I pack too much????” she writes. We know from her Italy girls’ getaway that the Big Little Lies star loves a pre-trip pic, but she turned the enthusiasm up a notch for her stay in the Southern Hemisphere.
Both Witherspoon and Kaling have already been making the most of their time abroad. Witherspoon shared a video from their epic helicopter ride over the otherworldly landscape and documented her moment on the mountaintop. They even posted friendship photos: nearly identical landscapes. (Here’s Kaling’s. Here’s Witherspoon’s.)
Lest she be outdone, Kaling posted a pic on a peak too, nailing a star jump atop Mount Creighton on the South Island.
But of course no true power squad would be complete without Oprah. The TV icon posted a photo of the three women on set (top). “Hangin’ with @reesewitherspoon, @mindykaling the Mrs’s from Wrinkle in Time, sending [love] your way Valentines,” she captions the group shot.
In addition to being a popular filming location — the Lord of the Rings movies were famously shot there — New Zealand has lately become a favorite vacation spot among celebrities: Rosie Huntington-Whitely and fiance Jason Statham, Counting On’s Jinger Duggar and Jeremy Vuolo, and Million Dollar Listing New York‘s Ryan Serhant and new wife Emilia all visited in the last few months.
