How Property Brothers' Jonathan Scott Botched His First Date with Girlfriend Jacinta — And How He’s Been Winning Her Over Since
Jonathan Scott and Jacinta Kuznetsov's Romantic Valentine's Day
The Property Brothers star waxed poetic about his longtime girlfriend, Jacinta Kuznetsov, alongside a black-and-white photo on Valentine's Day. "I don’t need just one day to tell this woman I love her, I need every day," he said. "I love her that much." Although they are the picture of a perfect couple now, their love affair didn't start out as smoothly...
Jonathan and Jacinta's Not-So-Sweet Meeting
Scott, 39, met Kuznetsov at a charity gala in 2015, but it wasn't exactly love at first sight. "I just sort of shrugged him off," Kuznetsov, 29, admitted to PEOPLE.
Persistant Property Brother
But after months of social media stalking, Scott finally scored a date with Kuznetsov, who is now the development producer at their company, Scott Brothers Entertainment. "Ever since then its been happiness, so much happiness," she said.
First Date Faux Pas
Scott recently revealed that the pair tried out archery for their fourth date — which was much more successful than their first: After the conversation took a turn for the supremely awkward, Scott suggested the two call it a night. "[Later] I texted Jacinta and apologized for my behavior," he told PEOPLE. "We decided it was worth starting fresh and attempted a new first date the following night. I promised to drop the drama and she pledged to set aside the sass. It turned out to be the beginning of something truly special."
Besides their knack for trouble, they also manage to sneak in some sweet dates, like this photoshoot they planned while filming Scott's HGTV show Brothers Take New Orleans in Louisana.
Kuznetsov has also gotten Drew's seal of approval. "There’s this creepy look that Jonathan gets when he’s starting to get mischievous,” Drew said. “He sort of rubs his hands together and starts to do this thing with his eyebrows. Then he started dating Jacinta, and she does the exact same thing. So if you ever see the two of them sitting there wiggling their eyebrows, something’s about to happen.”
The Scott twins took their family on a trip to Hawaii for Christmas 2016, and Kuznetsov was included in the close-knit travel crew. "How did you spend your holiday? We spent ours laughing until we hurt!!!" Jonathan captioned this collection of Polaroids.
One Year Later
After celebrating a year together in March, Scott and Kuznetsov are still falling hard. "Do you ever suddenly find yourselves re-discovering why you fell in love with somebody? I like when that happens," he wrote on this black-and-white selfie.
Finding Happiness from Heartbreak
Although he's found happiness now, Scott's romantic journey has not been an easy one. After splitting with ex-wife, Kelsy, he felt defeated about his romantic life. “But I learned a lot,” he said. “I don’t think I could enjoy what I have today with Jacinta if I hadn’t gone through a failed marriage.”
The couple love to travel together, and have taken on trips from a 1,300-mile road trip together to vactions in Cancun, Barcelona, Scotland and, most recently, Africa. "Thank you Uganda for the warm welcome and lifetime of memories," Jonathan said of this collage from their adventures.
The couple channeled major Cinderella vibes at the 2017 Emmys, but it’s the Property Brothers star who feels like he’s in a storybook. “I’d like to thank my co-star in the best fairytale a fella could ask for!” he wrote on this photo of the couple smooching on the award show’s red carpet.
Teaming Up for Charity
Over the 2017 holidays, Jacinta and Jonathan took their relationship to the next level — as volunteers! Together they filled 30 gift boxes with necessities and distributed them to local women's shelters. "We believe all women should feel valued, respected and treated with dignity," he said.
Scott and Kuznetsov aren't in a rush to tie the knot, but the HGTV star is looking forward to their future together. “We definitely want to get married and have kids, but we’re just finding joy in our relationship and still learning about each other as well,” he said. “We’ve only been dating a year and a half, but I don’t think we’ll wait seven years like Drew did before we decide what we’re going to do.”
