Mom's Little Helpers! Pregnant Joanna Gaines Puts Her Sons to Work on' Fixer Upper'

The expecting mom puts her boys to work, helping stage a home for one of her clients

Joanna Gaines has some new design assistants!

The Fixer Upper star and mom of four (with one more on the way!) usually has a crew who helps her stage her remodeling projects for her Waco, Texas, clientele. This week on the hit HGTV show, though, she’s seeking an extra hand from her and husband Chip’s two sons, Drake, 12, and Duke, 9.

The boys carefully stack wood that Joanna notes they “chopped on the farm with Dad” into a wall mounted log holder, a rustic touch Joanna included to keep the property feeling in-tune with the homeowner-to-be’s style.

Drake and Duke and their sisters Ella, 11, and Emmie Kay, 7, are used to appearing on air, whether stealing the spotlight at their baseball games with their dad or in the garden with their mom.

For this episode of season five — their final of the series — Joanna and Chip are redesigning a small structure on the property of their go-to metal designer, Jimmy Don Holmes. The local businessman is making over the space for his son, Jake, to live in.

“I think the things I used to make it feel a little more masculine — obviously the black leather, the heavier textured wools, but also the black accents in the kitchen, even just the cabinets — everything about it seems a little heavier.” Joanna explains in the video. “But then you’ve got all this natural light coming in which helps lighten everything up.”

After her sons finish up showing off their A+ staging skills, they’re free to “go outside for a little bit and play,” she instructs.
