Mindy Kaling's New York City Home
When Mindy Kaling walked into her redecorated New York City apartment, she felt like she was in the wrong house. “I thought, ‘who is this chic person who lives here? It’s not me, it looks amazing!’” Kaling, 37, says. After teaming up with One King’s Lane to give her downtown pad a pretty upgrade, the actress could barely believe the bright, white space was her home. “I got to be surprised like in a reality television show,” she says. “I desperately didn’t want to mess it up because it’s so chic and clean.”

Luxurious Living Room
A moroccan pouf, “which looks like it’s for the chicest, most elegant dog, ever,” is a favorite piece for Kaling in the living room, followed by her gorgeous glass coffee table. “It’s a really beautiful shape,” she says, “but can also withstand the weight of my heavy feet.”

Elegant Kitchen
A marble-clad kitchen is more about looks than function for the Mindy Project star. “I don’t use it a lot because I don’t cook, but I like that it’s really cheerful,” she says.

Dapper Dining Area
Her modest breakfast nook is one of Kaling’s favorite spots in the home. “I find [it] incredibly cheerful because there’s this great colorful print on the wall,” she says. Her other love? “My awesome light fixture, which is probably the biggest statement of the entire apartment because it is all wine glasses.”

A-List Guest Room
Kaling’s gender-neutral guest room is ready to host at a moment’s notice. “So I don’t know, George Clooney if he needed a place to stay in New York City if he’s not in Lake Como or his mansion in the Hollywood Hills," she says. "I think he and Amal would enjoy this room and there would be something for each of them to love.”

Smart Stalking
Instagram served as Kaling’s main source of decorating inspiration. “I just follow a bunch of beautiful celebrities because sometimes they post inside of their house and you can try to eek out their style from stalking them online,” she says.

Room to Relax
In the master bedroom, wall-mounted sconces free up space on her side tables. “I always used to get a really bulky lamp and put it on my nightstand so I could never keep anything else on my nightstand,” she says. “I was like this is a game changed.”

Right at Home
The apartment, in Manhattan's Nolita neighborhood, is now a place for Kaling to relax, work and people watch with ease. “I’m not used to that being in New York,” she says. “I think that the other apartments I lived in have been small and dark and homey, whereas this is big and bright and light and homey.”
